Maidaan
Ajay Devgn’s starrer Maidaan was released on April 11 in cinema. This movie was released in three languages. The budget spent on making the movie was around 250 crore but at the box office movie was only able to earn 68 crore worldwide. Maidaan is based on the real-life story of coach Syed Abdul Rahim. He was the architect of Indian Football. In the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games underdog Indian Football Team won the gold medal and after that, we never won the gold in Football. The cinematography and direction of Maidaan deserved all the praise. It is also one of the most underrated movies of 2024. The Indian audience is unable to recognize this beautiful film.
Chandu Champion
Kartik Aryan stars in the lead role of Chandu Champion, which was released in theaters on June 14, 2024. The film is based on the inspiring life of Indian Paralympian gold medalist Murlikant Petkar. It was made with a budget of Rs 140 crores but only earned Rs 89 crores at the box office. Director Kabir Khan faced another setback after 83, as his sports drama failed to perform well. Despite having a compelling story and featuring a forgotten hero, the film was overshadowed by the success of Munjya and Kalki in 2898 AD, leading to its poor box office performance.
Sarfira
The Hindi remake of Suriya’s National Award-winning film Soorarai Pottru failed at the box office. Titled Sarfira, and starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, the film was released on July 12. It tells the story of a courageous man who refuses to back down from life’s challenges. The film carries a strong message and serves as a source of inspiration. Directed by the same filmmaker with the same passion as the original, Sarfira was just as impactful as Soorarai Pottru. However, while the original received widespread recognition, the remake struggled to attract audiences. Made with a budget of Rs 30 crores, Sarfira earned only Rs 30 crores, failing to make a significant impact.
Khel Khel Mein
On Independence Day 2024, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein was released in theaters. A worthy remake of the Italian film Perfect Strangers, the film starred Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, Fardeen Khan, and Pragya Jaiswal in lead roles. Made with a budget of Rs 100 crores, the film managed to earn only Rs 48 crores worldwide. Despite this, Khel Khel Mein deserved better. It had great potential and was a solid remake, offering both memorable moments and a meaningful message. Unfortunately, the film found more success on OTT platforms than in theaters.
Jigra
Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina’s Jigra was released in theaters on October 10. Made with a budget of Rs 80 crores, the film earned only Rs 50 crores worldwide. Despite being well-directed, Jigra failed to gain recognition in theaters. The film was also affected by the controversies surrounding its release. However, despite the challenges, the film had great potential and deserved to be seen on the big screen. Its song Sang Rakhna also stood out as one of the best tracks of the year.
