It has been good news for the millions of Indians contributing to the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization, as the government has introduced two new features which will make life much easier for EPF members. Now you can update your personal information without any hassle online, and even submit your EPF transfer claims online with just an Aadhaar OTP.
Update Personal Information in EPF
One of the biggest headaches for EPF members has been correcting errors in their personal information. Things like a misspelled name, a wrong date of birth, or an incorrect marital status could cause major problems when it came to withdrawals or transferring your PF balance. Previously, correcting these mistakes was a tedious process. You had to submit a joint declaration along with supporting documents, which required your employer’s verification and approval from the EPFO.
But now, things are much simpler. If your UAN was issued after October 1, 2017 (when Aadhaar linking became mandatory), you can simply update your information online without any need for your employer’s intervention or EPFO approval. This includes a wide range of details like name, date of birth, gender, nationality, parent names, marital status, spouse’s name, and employment dates.
For UANs issued before October 1, 2017, corrections can still be made by the employer without EPFO approval, and the process for support documents has been simplified. If your UAN is not Aadhaar linked, you will have to submit corrections through your employer.
Faster Online Claims with Aadhaar OTP
Another significant change is the option to submit an EPF transfer claim online, using just an Aadhaar OTP. That’s right; no more waiting for your employer to process your request. If you have an e-KYC EPF account linked to your Aadhaar, you can simply submit your claim online, and the process will be much quicker and smoother.
Why These Changes Matter
These new features are a significant step forward for EPF members. Simplifying the updating of personal information and allowing online claims are ways of facilitating the easy access of savings by the people. This would lower the complaints received by EPFO but will enhance the experience of millions of working Indians.
