Hello friends The Marvel Cinematic Universe is once again buzzing with excitement, but this time, it’s not all good news. Avengers Doomsday, the highly anticipated next installment in the Avengers saga, might be facing delays, according to recent reports. Let’s dive into what’s happening behind the scenes and what it means for the MCU.
A New Name A New Era
Initially titled Avengers The Kang Dynasty, the film was officially rebranded as Avengers: Doomsday at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. The project is in the capable hands of Joe and Anthony Russo, who are returning to direct, with Stephen McFeely taking over the scriptwriting duties. But the biggest surprise? The return of Robert Downey Jr.! However, he won’t be reprising his iconic role as Tony Stark. Instead, he’s set to play Victor von Doom, the film’s main antagonist. This unexpected casting choice has left fans both thrilled and intrigued.
Is Avengers Doomsday Getting Delayed
Despite the excitement, rumors have surfaced that Avengers: Doomsday might not meet its planned May 1, 2026, release date. Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider recently revealed on The Hot Mic podcast that the film could be pushed back, though the extent of the delay remains uncertain. He stated, “I heard a rumor that Avengers: Doomsday might push. I think that the release date could push to the next slot. I don’t know when the next slot is, but it could just miss one slot so it’d be pushed like a few months.”
Given that Spider-Man 4 was recently moved to July 31, 2026, some speculate that Avengers: Doomsday could shift into that window. However, if Marvel Studios follows its traditional May release schedule for Avengers films, the delay could be much longer—possibly pushing the movie to 2027.
Why the Delay
The biggest reason behind this rumored delay? Uncertainty over the film’s ensemble cast. Sneider explained, “I think they don’t know who’s in the movie. That’s what I heard. I heard we still don’t know who’s gonna ultimately be in this movie and who’s not. Like we don’t know who’s gonna be available, like we don’t know any of that. So I think they’re still just figuring out what that ensemble looks like. With an expected mix of new faces from The Fantastic Four, returning veterans like Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, and even the possibility of Chris Evans making a comeback, Marvel is reportedly still shaping the final script to accommodate the best lineup possible.
Adding to the uncertainty, a separate report from Daniel Richtman suggests that filming, originally set to begin in March, has been pushed to April due to ongoing script revisions. This aligns with Sneider’s claim that Marvel is still finalizing character involvement, which naturally affects production schedules.
Should Fans Be Worried
Despite these concerns, there’s still plenty of hope for Avengers: Doomsday. The Russo Brothers recently described the film as “radical,” hinting at a bold and exciting direction. While delays can be frustrating, they often lead to a better final product. After all, Marvel has a history of taking its time to ensure that each film delivers the best possible experience for fans.
While nothing is confirmed yet, the possibility of a delay for Avengers: Doomsday is certainly something to keep an eye on. Marvel Studios has a lot riding on this film, and with such a high-profile cast and an ambitious storyline, taking extra time to perfect it might not be the worst idea. Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s keep our fingers crossed that we won’t have to wait too long to see the Avengers back in action!
