Mahindra’s Thar and XUV700 have become icons in the Indian SUV market, thanks to their bold designs and powerful performance. These models, launched in 2020 and 2021, have become household names. However, they are now due for a major update, and Mahindra has confirmed that the facelifts will arrive in 2026. In the meantime, the company will focus on electric vehicles (EVS) in 2025, including the delivery of models like the BE 6 and XEV 9e.
Thar Facelift: Subtle Changes, Same Adventure
The 2026 facelift of the Thar, codenamed ‘Mahindra W515,’ will bring several exciting updates without altering its rugged charm. Expect a new grille inspired by the Thar Roxx, updated headlamps, tail lamps, and revamped bumpers. The biggest change will be the switch to LED projector headlamps with a sleek C-shaped DRL signature. Additionally, new 18-inch alloy wheels will further enhance the Thar’s bold exterior, and Mahindra may introduce fresh colour options to add variety.
Inside, the Thar will get a new steering wheel, an advanced touchscreen infotainment system, and an all-digital instrument cluster. The button layout will be revised, and a sunroof is likely to be added for an extra touch of luxury. Despite these upgrades, the Thar will retain its current engine and transmission options, ensuring that its off-road capabilities remain intact.
XUV700 Facelift: A Futuristic Design
The XUV700 facelift, internally called ‘Mahindra W616,’ will take a bold step forward with a futuristic design inspired by Mahindra’s electric range. Expect vertical headlamps with inverted L-shaped DRLS, a new grille, and redesigned tail lights. The cabin will feature a redesigned dashboard with a passenger touchscreen and a two-spoke steering wheel, adding a touch of sophistication.
The upcoming 2026 facelifts for the Thar and XUV700 will give these iconic SUVS a modern edge. While Mahindra focuses on electric vehicles in 2025, these updates will keep their legacy strong for years to come.
