The third largest automaker in the country, Hyundai Motor India, also showed mixed results during December 2024. Creta, ever a best-seller in its SUV range, continued with the winning spree while others declined on sale.
A Mixed Bag of Results
On a closer look, the sales figure reveals a varied performance across the Hyundai model portfolio. While some models like the Creta and a few others have shown very good year-on-year growth, the overall sales of many key models like Venue, i20, and Tucson have come down compared to the same period last year.
Creta Leads the Pack Once Again
The Hyundai Creta remains the undisputed king of the Indian SUV market, recording sales of 12,608 units in December. Year over year, sales were up a healthy 36%. The model remains the company’s best seller.
Venue Sales Dip Ever So Slightly
Hyundai Venue subcompact SUV remained its second-best selling model in December. Vehicle sales went down marginally by 1%, however, at 10,265 units.
Hatchback Woes
The premium hatchback i20 managed to sell 3,453 units that were 25% less than December 2023. The most basic Grand i10 Nios proved a bit more optimistic, with a 14% growth compared to the previous year, at 4,489 units.
Tucson Shows Strong Growth Despite Low Volumes
The company flagship SUV, Hyundai Tucson, also showed a good growth of 84% year on year, though the volumes are very low at 33 units only.
Alcazar Continues its Ascent
The Alcazar, Hyundai seven-seater SUV, continued its upward trajectory, with sales reaching 1,342 units in December, reflecting a 41% year-on-year increase.
Sedans Show Modest Growth
The compact sedan Aura recorded a modest 1% year-on-year growth, with 3,852 units sold. The midsize sedan Verna also witnessed positive momentum, with sales increasing by 22% to 872 units in December.
Conclusion
Hyundai December 2024 sales performance indicates that the Creta continues to be the dominant model, while other segments face a decline. The company needs to address the sales decline of its key models, such as i20 and Venue, to maintain its market share in the competitive Indian automotive landscape.
