The Kia Sonet, an SUV which shot into the Indian market early this year in January 2024, reached a rare milestone by attaining over 1 lakh sales in a mere 11 months. In other words, it managed to clock almost 10,000 units per month, signifying strong demand for the handsome and loaded vehicle.

Petrol Power and Sunroof Appeal

The success of the Sonet can be attributed to several factors. First, the petrol variants have been the most sought after, making up a large share of sales. Second, the sunroof, which is a feature much in demand by Indian car buyers, has been a major attraction, with 79% of the Sonets sold having this feature.

A Diverse Range of Choices

The car is available in 22 variants and 6 powertrains, which can easily meet the diversified preferences of customers. Out of 76% of the buyers opted for a petrol engine, the diesel variants also found devoted buyers. It is important to note that the car’s version with automatic and intelligent manual transmission (iMT) alone accounted for a whopping 34% share of sales, creating a further trend of convenience.

Design and Dimensions

The Sonet boasts a contemporary design with sculpted body lines and flared wheel arches. While some may find the design elements somewhat conventional, it undoubtedly contributes to the car’s overall appeal. The Sonet’s compact dimensions – 3,995 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, and 1,610 mm in height – make it well-suited for navigating Indian city traffic.

Safety and Technology

Safety comes first, and the Sonet delivers with 15 standard safety features, 10 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) Level 1 features, and over 70 connected car features. This broad suite of safety and technology upgrades enhances both the driving experience and peace of mind.

Powertrain Options

The Sonet comes with three engine options: a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol, and a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel. These engines are accompanied by suitable transmissions, including a 5-speed manual for the 1.2-liter petrol, iMT or DCT for the 1.0-liter petrol, and a 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic for the 1.5-liter diesel.

Interior Comfort and Features

The Sonet is distinguished by an all-black theme from the inside that feels elegant. Other key features include a digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, cruise control, air purifier, and necessary safety features such as 6 airbags and front and rear parking sensors.

Conclusion

Kia Sonet has been enjoying incredible success in the Indian market because it provides the right balance of design, performance, safety, and technology. The diverseness in the choices and also on the customer preference has grabbed the heart of Indian automobile customers, giving it an immense foothold in a competitive compact SUV market.
