This sharp decline made it clear that the demand for these bikes has plummeted, forcing KTM to reconsider its presence in the Indian market.
The Price Factor A Major Concern
One of the biggest reasons for the low sales is the pricing. The KTM 125 Duke is priced at Rs. 1,81,030, while the RC 125 costs Rs. 1,91,795 (both ex-showroom Delhi). At these price points, customers have better alternatives, such as the Yamaha R15 V4 and the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, both of which offer superior performance, more features, and a better overall value proposition. Moreover, for just Rs. 23,000 more, one can get the KTM 200 Duke at Rs. 2,03,950 (ex-showroom Delhi). With a more powerful engine and additional features, it makes much more sense for buyers to stretch their budget slightly and opt for the 200cc variant instead.
KTM’s Financial Strategy and Restructuring
KTM has been facing financial challenges for a while, and its creditors recently approved a restructuring plan. Excess inventory buildup has been a major issue, and KTM is now focusing on streamlining its product lineup. By discontinuing models that are not performing well, KTM aims to concentrate on bikes that generate higher sales and better profitability.

With the 125cc models being phased out, the KTM 200 Duke will now become the most affordable KTM offering in India.
