Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest automobile manufacturer, is gradually adding to its electric vehicle lineup. It is preparing to launch several hybrid models, and one of the most eagerly awaited will be the Fronx Hybrid. Recently spotted on road tests, the Fronx Hybrid promises to be a great mix of efficiency and performance.
Spy Shots Reveal Hybrid Identity
Recently, the Fronx Hybrid was spotted in Gurugram, India, with no disguise at all. Spy shots are quite evident in showing the ‘Fronx’ and ‘Hybrid’ badges on the rear. Unlike the regular Fronx, which places the ‘Fronx’ badge on the left, the hybrid version places the badge on the right side of the car, above the ‘Hybrid’ badge.
A New Hybrid System for the Masses
Maruti Suzuki has developed a new strong hybrid system specifically designed for entry-level SUVs like the Fronx. This is something very different from the existing hybrid technology in models such as the Grand Vitara and Invicto. This system is designed mainly for range extension. The petrol engine is more of a range extender, just recharging the battery pack, while the electric motor takes care of all driving functions with a silky smooth and refined drive.
Powertrain Details A Blend of Efficiency and Performance
The Fronx Hybrid will be powered by the new Z12E petrol engine, which has already made its debut in the latest generation Swift. This latest engine puts out a healthy 81.58 PS of power and 111.7 Nm of torque. However, the new Swift along with this engine did manage to achieve incredible fuel efficiency figures at 24.8 KMPL with manual transmission and 25.75 KMPL with AMT. The Fronx Hybrid is focused to be very efficient, so obviously it will be in excess of these figures and be pushing over 30 km/l.
An Effort from a Giant to Improve Efficiency
The standard Fronx currently comes with a 1.2-liter K-series engine developing 89.73 PS power and 113 Nm of torque. Though this engine does its job efficiently, the figures of the fuel efficiency seem to be a little lower compared to what was expected for this hybrid variant. The standard manual variant of the Fronx returns a mileage of 21.79 km/l whereas the AMT variant of the same offers a mileage of 22.89 km/l. The Fronx Hybrid, with its dedicated hybrid system and the efficient Z12E engine, is poised to offer a substantial improvement in fuel economy, making it a compelling choice for eco-conscious consumers.
The Fronx Hybrid A Glimpse into the Future
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid represents a significant step forward in the company’s electrification strategy. Maruti Suzuki’s introduction of a dedicated hybrid system for its highly popular compact SUV makes hybrid technology available to more buyers. The powerful hybrid technology and efficient engine together with Maruti Suzuki’s renowned reliability make this Fronx Hybrid a most-awaited model. Though the official launch date and pricing have not been declared, Fronx Hybrid will certainly rewrite the book for compact SUVs in India and herald a new generation of fuel efficiency and environmentally friendly driving.
