Choosing the right micro-SUV can be a tough decision. Both the Tata Punch and the Hyundai Exter are popular choices, each boasting unique strengths. This comparison will help you understand their key differences in terms of features, performance, and pricing, enabling you to make an informed choice.

Features and Technology

True to Hyundai’s design philosophy, the Hyundai Exter is more of a style product. It is equipped with a smart electric sunroof and LED tail lamps along with DRLs that add a dash of luxury to it. Automatic climate control, large touchscreen infotainment, six airbags, electronic stability control, and hill-start assist control are all provided for the comfort and safety of its occupants.

The Tata Punch has a more aggressive and robust look. Its distinctive tri-arrow grille and C-pillar mounted door handles make it stand out in the crowd. It does not have as many frills as the Exter, but a decent feature list that includes a sunroof, a spacious digital instrument cluster, power windows, and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety features include anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and two airbags.

Engine and Performance

Both SUVs are equipped with 1.2-liter engines. The Hyundai Exter’s engine produces 69 PS of power and 95.2 Nm of torque, coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. Hyundai claims a fuel efficiency of up to 27.1 km per kilogram for the CNG variant. At the heart of the Tata Punch is a 1.2-litre Revotron engine that pumps out around 73.5 PS and 103 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Pricing

The Hyundai Exter CNG is priced at Rs 8.50 lakh for the base variant and goes all the way up to Rs 9.38 lakh for the top-spec model. The Tata Punch CNG, on the other hand, starts at a more competitive price of Rs 7.23 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 9.85 lakh for the fully-loaded variant.

The Verdict

The choice between the Tata Punch and the Hyundai Exter depends on your priorities. The Exter from Hyundai would be good for you when you need it for style and a more premium feature list besides improved safety features. The Tata Punch would work best for a robust design, relatively a bit powerfull engine as well as one which is value for money in the budget section. In total, test drive is advised to better feel the cars and decide, with which one a better match suits and which does not.
