Great news for salaried Indians! EPFO has now extended the deadline to activate the Universal Account Number (UAN) and link it with Aadhaar and the bank account, which is vital to receive benefits of the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme introduced by the government.

The new deadline is January 15, 2025, so you still have some time to get this done. If you haven’t yet, here is a quick guide on how to activate your UAN number and link it with Aadhaar and your bank account:

What is the EPFO ELI Scheme

This scheme, called ELI, was instituted by the Indian government to induce fresh employment within specific sectors of the Indian economy. In this ELI scheme, an eligible employee can receive an incentive in terms of a bank deposit. Eligibility criteria for the ELI Scheme: To be considered eligible for this ELI scheme, you have to fulfill these requirements: Be a new employee who has joined a company on or after a specific date (as defined by the government). Work in a sector covered by the ELI scheme (such as manufacturing). Meet the minimum salary threshold set by the government.

How to Activate Your UAN and Link it with Aadhaar and Bank Account

Here’s a step-by-step guide to activating your UAN and linking it with Aadhaar and your bank account: Visit the official EPFO member portal: https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/ Click on the ‘Activate UAN’ link under the ‘Important Links’ section. Enter your UAN, Aadhaar number, name, date of birth, and Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Click on the declaration checkbox and then the ‘Get Authorization Pin’ button. Enter the OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and click on ‘Submit.’ On successful activation, a password will be sent to your mobile number.

Log in using your UAN and password and follow the instructions to change your password. This will complete your UAN activation. Once your UAN is activated, link your bank account by going to the ‘Manage’ section and selecting ‘Bank Account.’ Enter your bank account details and IFSC code and click on ‘Save.’

Important Note

Ensure your mobile number is registered with Aadhaar to receive the OTP for activation. If you do not have a UAN, you can obtain it from your employer. Follow these steps to ensure you are eligible to receive the benefits of the ELI scheme. Don’t miss this opportunity-get your UAN activated and linked today.
