Jaat: When a film featuring a veteran like Sunny Deol is released with the promise of high-octane action and a pan-India appeal, expectations are naturally sky-high. That was the case with Jaat, a film that created a fair bit of buzz before its release.
A Rocky Start Despite the Hype
Jaat opened to an underwhelming response on Thursday and dipped further on Friday, leaving trade experts worried. Saturday saw a 40% growth in collections, a glimmer of hope, but it wasn’t quite the bounce the makers were hoping for. According to the film’s production house, Mythri Movie Makers, the film earned ₹32.20 crore gross in India over its first three days.
Comparisons That Hurt
What makes the situation more glaring is the comparison with Sunny Deol’s own Gadar 2, which had clocked ₹50 crore worldwide on just its opening day. Even Salman Khan’s Sikandar, which didn’t meet expectations, managed to collect ₹54 crore worldwide on day one alone. That Jaat has taken three days to approach similar numbers paints a bleak picture of its performance.
The Road Ahead
There’s still hope that positive word-of-mouth and strong Sunday numbers could help Jaat recover some ground. But with such stiff competition and lukewarm audience reception so far, the film has an uphill battle to fight.
