‘Emergency’, which released in theaters on Friday, did a business of ₹ 2.35 crore on the very first day. This figure may not seem very big, but it is a great start compared to Kangana’s previous films. Her 2023 release ‘Tejas’ earned ₹ 1.25 crore on the first day, while 2022 release ‘Dhaakad’ collected only ₹ 1.20 crore.
The 2021 political biopic ‘Thalaivi’, based on the life of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, earned ₹ 1.46 crore on the first day. At the same time, before this, Kangana’s biggest opening was the 2020 film ‘Panga’, which touched the figure of ₹ 2.70 crores on the first day. But now ‘Emergency’ has written a new chapter for her.
Story and controversy of the film
‘Emergency’ depicts the period of emergency in the country from 1975 to 1977. In this, Kangana has played the role of former Prime Minister of the country Indira Gandhi. This film is not just a political drama, but tells the truth of that time and the suffering of the people.
However, the film was also in controversy regarding its story. In August last year, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) sent a legal notice to the filmmakers, accusing them of misrepresentation against the Sikh community. After this, the film was opposed at many places in Punjab and some theaters removed it from screening.
