Weather Update: Just when the residents of Delhi and parts of North India had started to enjoy a brief spell of relief brought by a sudden downpour and thunderstorms, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a fresh warning that the heat is far from over. It’s only going to get more intense in the coming weeks.

Rainfall Brings Relief, But Not for Long

Weather Update

The recent rain and lightning across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and neighboring areas provided a much-needed break from the scorching temperatures. For many, the cloudy skies and cool winds were a welcome change after the capital recorded its warmest night of the season, with temperatures soaring close to 40°C. But this momentary relief was short-lived.

Western Disturbance to Temporarily Ease Heat

According to the IMD, a Western Disturbance currently active in the region has temporarily eased the heatwave conditions. Thunderstorms, lightning, and even hailstorms are expected in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir, while Rajasthan may witness widespread dust storms. These events are likely to bring down temperatures by 3–5°C for the next few days.

In recent days, areas like Rajasthan, Haryana, and parts of Himachal and Jammu have already witnessed dangerously high temperatures, hovering between 42 to 44°C, a staggering 4 to 7 degrees above normal.

Western and Central India Also Suffering

Weather Update

Saurashtra and Kutch in Gujarat have recorded the season’s highest temperature so far, 45.6°C. Similarly, extreme heat has been reported in parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Though a minor drop is expected over the next three days, the mercury is expected to rise again shortly after.
