IPL 2025 was postponed for a week due to the border tension between India and Pakistan. The league is starting again today, i.e. 17 May 2025. The first match will be played today between RCB and KKR at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Before the match, RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, shared how the team felt when the tournament was suspended.
RCB Director’s Statement
1. Suspension Decision Before RCB vs Lucknow
The decision to pause IPL 2025 came just before RCB’s match against Lucknow. Mo Bobat, RCB’s Director of Cricket, said no one expected the India-Pakistan tensions to ease so quickly and was surprised the tournament could restart so soon.
2. Player Safety and Rest
Bobat explained that the team management wanted all players to go home safely when the situation worsened.
“We thought it was a good chance for the players to take a break. It was especially helpful for the Indian players. Andy (head coach Andy Flower) and I spoke with the overseas players and asked their views. Most of them wanted to return home and said they would come back once things were normal.”
3. Feeling the Impact During the Punjab vs Delhi Match
Bobat described how the management felt when the week-long suspension was announced. The team was watching the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals game in Dharamsala when play was stopped because of the rising tensions.
4. A Chaotic Evening in Dharamsala
“There was a lot of chaos. We tried to stay calm and kept gathering information from the BCCI. It was an eventful evening. We had practised before the Lucknow game, and on the way back to the bus, many people were watching the Punjab vs Delhi match on their phones. Suddenly, the floodlights went off and the players left the field. We didn’t know what was happening. When we got back to the hotel, we started to understand the situation better.”
