This time, the Modi government has taken a big step to support the country’s common people. Yes, the central government has announced the distribution of free LPG gas cylinders for economically weaker families. It is known that the government will provide these cooking gas cylinders at a low cost, mainly to BPL cardholders, Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, and other economically backwards communities.
Main Objective of the Scheme
Many rural or poor families in India still use charcoal or straw for cooking, which harms their health. To solve this problem, the central government is now offering free cooking gas. That’s why the Free Gas Cylinder Scheme is being launched in 2025.
Who Will Get the Benefit
According to the central government, applicants must meet the following conditions to get the benefit:
- Must be a BPL cardholder.
- Must be linked to the Ujjwala Yojana.
- Must be a rural family without an existing LPG connection.
- Must be a woman from the SC/ST or a backwards class.
- Widows or disabled persons are also eligible.
- Senior citizens can also apply.
- Annual family income must be less than ₹2 lakh.
- Aadhaar must be linked to a bank account.
Required Documents
To get the free gas connection, you will need the following documents:
- Original and photocopy of Aadhaar card
- Ration card and BPL certificate
- Voter ID card or electricity bill (as proof of address)
- Annual income certificate
- Photocopy of Aadhaar-linked bank passbook
- Caste certificate
- Passport-size colour photograph

How to Apply
Follow these steps to apply for the Free Gas Cylinder Scheme:
- Visit your local Gram Panchayat office and collect the application form.
- Fill out the form and attach all required documents.
- Submit the form to the concerned officer.
- Your details will be verified by the Panchayat.
- Be present during the verification process.
- Once approved, the gas connection will be provided through the nearest LPG dealer.
Where Is This Scheme Available Now
Currently, this scheme is active in the following states:
- Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Assam.
- It is expected that people in West Bengal will also get the benefit soon.
