Lucknow Super Giants are not doing well this season, especially captain Rishabh Pant. This is turning out to be his most disappointing IPL season. When a captain doesn’t perform, it affects the whole team. Pant has scored only one half-century in this year’s IPL. Sometimes he comes in to bat lower down the order, and other times, he hurts the team with poor shot selection.
The top three batters are the real strength of the Lucknow team. But if they fail, the whole team struggles. In a recent match, Punjab Kings gave them a kind of ‘penalty’ by defeating them with a margin of 70 runs. Wondering how that happened? Let’s find out.
Lucknow Super Giants Lost to Punjab by 37 Runs
Lucknow Super Giants lost to Punjab Kings by 37 runs in Dharamshala. Ayush Badoni tried his best in the lower order, but chasing a huge target of 237 runs, his efforts were not enough. Interestingly, Punjab could have been stopped under 200 runs. That’s where LSG made a big mistake—poor fielding.
Punjab Took Advantage of Poor Fielding
Fielding plays a big role in tight matches. In the earlier match on Sunday, KKR won by just 1 run due to their excellent fielding. But Lucknow collapsed in this department. Their fielding errors cost them the match.

21 Crore Player Dropped the Game
Nicholas Pooran is the most expensive retained player for Lucknow Super Giants. He was retained for ₹21 crore and has done well with the bat this season. He is mainly a wicketkeeper-batter, but his ground fielding isn’t usually weak either.

Pooran’s Drop Catch Cost 70 Runs
During the match against Punjab Kings, Pooran dropped an easy catch of Prabhsimran Singh when he was batting on 21. That one mistake changed the game. Prabhsimran went on to score 91 runs. If that catch was taken, those extra 70 runs might not have come from his bat. It could have broken Punjab’s momentum. In a way, those 70 runs felt like a ‘penalty’ for that one drop.
