Several new rules for LPG gas cylinders will come into effect from May 10, 2025. Yes, you read that right. The main goals of these new rules are to improve safety, raise awareness, and make the service more digital. Now, Every Cylinder Will Have Its Own Identity
As per the new rules for gas cylinders, every cylinder will now have a barcode, QR code, or RFID tag. Both you and the gas dealer will be able to see this code. With it, you’ll be able to track how many times the cylinder has been refilled, when it was last refilled, and whether the cylinder is safe or expired.
Stricter Security Measures
The government is not only focusing on domestic cooking gas (LPG Connection) but also on future fuel services like gas tanks, bulk transportation, and even hydrogen. New safety standards will be introduced in gas storage and transportation, which will greatly reduce the chances of major accidents.
Link Aadhaar and Bank Account for Subsidy
For those who still receive the government subsidy on cooking gas, a major update is coming. From May 15, 2025, you must link your Aadhaar card and bank account number to your LPG account (LPG Connection). If these two documents are not linked, the subsidy will stop.
Additionally, people with an annual income of over ₹10 lakh will no longer receive the subsidy. Every customer will also need to submit KYC every two years. These changes are being made to prevent fake claimants and ensure that only eligible poor families benefit from the scheme.
Free Gas Cylinders for Villages
While the subsidy rules are changing, there is good news for villages and poor families. The government is launching a new scheme where those who do not have an LPG connection or are listed under BPL and Ujjwala Yojana will receive free gas cylinders. This initiative will be carried out through Gram Panchayats, aiming to improve health and services by eliminating stove or wood smoke.
