Electric vehicles are no longer just a futuristic dream they are the present and the future of mobility. Nissan, a pioneer in the EV segment, has taken a massive leap forward by unveiling the all-electric Nissan Micra EV and Thin Lrd Geeaf Unveiled A Bold Step Towards the Future of Electric Mobility and the next-generation Nissan Leaf.
Battery and Performance
Nissan’s decision to transform the Micra into an EV is a game-changer. The all-new Micra EV is built on the CMF-BEV platform, which it shares with the Renault 5, another upcoming electric hatchback. Nissan has announced two battery pack options: 40kWh and 52kWh, with the larger battery promising an impressive 400+ km range on a single charge. However, Nissan has yet to reveal power and torque figures for this all-electric hatchback.
Design and Exterior
The production version of the Micra EV stays true to its concept roots. Many elements of the 20-23 EV concept shown almost a year and a half ago have been carried over, most notably the circular LED headlights shaped like the Nissan logo. Nissan’s global design chief, Alfonso Albaisa, described the approach as “cute yet futuristic,” featuring round headlights inspired by a puppy-dog look. The front bumper now features a silver trim instead of the full-width LED strip seen in the concept. The wheel arches have gloss-black cladding, and the wheels have a flat, aerodynamic design to reduce drag. Nissan has also made subtle changes to the rearview mirrors, opting for a more traditional design, and notably, the production Micra EV does not have a rear spoiler. The interior of the Micra EV remains a mystery, as Nissan has not yet revealed its cabin layout or tech features.
Battery and Range
Nissan has once again redefined expectations with the third-generation Leaf. This latest version offers a staggering 598 km range, making it one of the most long-range electric vehicles in its segment. Nissan’s Chief Planning Officer, François Bailly, emphasized the importance of range and aerodynamics, stating that highway endurance was a key focus in its development.
Platform and Manufacturing
The new Leaf is built on the CMF-EV platform, which it shares with the larger Nissan Ariya SUV. Nissan has confirmed that production will take place at its Sunderland plant in the UK, which is the largest car manufacturing facility in the country in terms of volume.
Design and Aerodynamics
This is the first time Nissan has showcased the Leaf in its production-ready avatar. While the vehicle’s overall length has been slightly reduced, it now features a compact SUV-like high stance, distinguishing it from its predecessors. Nissan has heavily focused on aerodynamics, achieving a drag coefficient of just 0.25 Cd, ensuring maximum efficiency and extended range.
Will the Micra EV and Leaf Come to India
As of now, Nissan has no plans to launch the Micra EV or the third-gen Leaf in India. However, on the internal combustion engine (ICE) front, Nissan is gearing up to introduce a Renault Triber-based MPV and a Hyundai Creta-rivaling SUV in the Indian market between 2025 and 2026.
Nissan’s Bold Electric Future
The unveiling of the Nissan Micra EV and the third-generation Leaf signals a new chapter in the company’s electric journey. With impressive range figures, innovative designs, and platforms shared with Renault, these vehicles are set to redefine urban and long-range electric driving. While their availability in India remains uncertain, these models highlight Nissan’s strong focus on practical, efficient, and stylish electric mobility. Whether you’re an EV enthusiast or a first-time electric car buyer, Nissan’s latest offerings set the stage for an exciting future in sustainable transportation.
