Tata Motors has made a huge leap forward in the Indian automotive market with the launch of CNG variants of their popular hatchback, Tiago, and compact sedan, Tigor, equipped with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). This move is to churn up the entire CNG car segment-a comfort for consumers.
Till now, CNG cars in the Indian market were available only with manual transmissions. Tata has closed this gap by introducing AMT options in both the Tiago and Tigor CNG models. That being said, this is a first in the segment, and Tata remains a pioneer in offering automatic transmission options for CNG vehicles sold in India.
Engine and Performance
The Tiago and Tigor CNG AMT shares the same 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine. In CNG mode, the same offers a maximum power output of 72 bhp and a peak torque of 95 Nm. Paired with the 5-speed AMT, these cars make for easy driving on roads – be it in city traffic or during long commutes.
Fuel Efficiency
Tata Motors claims a fuel efficiency of 28.06 km/kg for both the Tiago and Tigor CNG AMT variants. This is marginally better than its more budget-friendly manual versions; thus, this makes them still rather more attractive for the budget-conscious buyer.

In addition to the AMT gearbox, the Tiago and Tigor CNG AMT variants feature an array of comfort features, including a touchscreen infotainment system, air conditioning, power windows, and steering-mounted audio controls. The car offers safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.
