What Do the Letters and Numbers in PAN Mean?

1. First 3 Letters (ABC):
These are random alphabets. For example: ABC, XYZ, MNO, etc.
They are just randomly made, so no two people get the same one.

2. Fourth Letter – Type of Person or Group:
This letter shows your category. Here are the meanings:
- A – Association of Persons
- B – Body of Individuals
- C – Company
- F – Firm or Partnership
- G – Government Department
- H – Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)
- J – Artificial Juridical Person
- L – Local Authority
- P – Individual Person
- T – Trust
If the fourth letter is P, then it means you are an individual person.
3. Fifth Letter – First Letter of Your Name:
- This letter is the first letter of your name.
- For example, if your name is Gopal Mitra, the fifth letter will be G.
4. Next 4 Numbers (1234):
- These numbers are serial numbers.
- They keep increasing as more people apply for PAN cards.
5. Last Letter (F) – Validity Check:
- This letter is for checking if the PAN is correct or fake.
