Baby John” is an action drama that will make you sit on the edge of your seat. This Tamil remake of “Theri” delivers justice in a mighty way and keeps you entertained with all the thrills of action and heart-warming moments.
A Story of Justice and Redemption
The movie follows the life of Baby John, a doting father who lives peacefully with his daughter. His idyllic life takes a turn for the worse when a chilling phone call reveals a dark secret from his past.
Flash back six years ago, when the upright IPS officer Satya Verma encountered a crime that seemed more than horrific: it was a rape and murder of a young girl. And all hell breaks loose in his life with a bitter fate that sets him towards vengeance and a relentless chase after justice.
A Feast for the Senses
“Baby John” is a visual treat. Varun Dhawan gives a fantastic performance as he moves from being the carefree Baby John to the fierce, determined Satya Verma. His action scenes are so intense that you will be left breathless. Sanil Rodrigues’s action design is brilliant, and Thaman S’s background score complements the on-screen action to perfection and adds to the intensity and thrill.
A Touch of Humor and Strong Supporting Cast
The film provides a much-needed dose of humor with Rajpal Yadav’s brilliant, over-the-top performance in a supporting role. He provides excellent comic timing and cleverly crafted dialogue, making it interesting for the audience to stay on board with him. Jackie Shroff does an outstanding job as an antagonist, retaining his hold throughout the movie.
Keerthy Suresh made a very strong Bollywood debut playing Satya’s wife with great grace and sensibility. Vamika Gabbi, as a teacher to Khushi, did a great job, but her character had very little impact on the movie as a whole.
Where The Film Fails
While “Baby John” excels in action and emotional depth, the film’s musical score is a minor disappointment. The songs lack the impact and memorability expected from a commercial film, potentially hindering the overall viewing experience.
Verdict
It’s an all-out masala entertainer that caters to every other kind of audience. And if you are a diehard fan of Varun Dhawan’s action-packed films or relish movies that blend a serious take with thrilling entertainment, then, of course, this movie has loads to offer. Minor shortfalls apart, “Baby John” is a fun-to-watching movie that is apt to enjoy only at theatres.
