A heated debate has erupted between Bollywood actor Harshvardhan Rane and his Sanam Teri Kasam co-actress Mawra Hocane. Amid Indo-Pak tensions, Harshvardhan refused to work with Mawra in Sanam Teri Kasam 2, which Mawra called a PR stunt. This controversy has been making headlines on social media. Now, the actor has responded. Let’s understand the entire matter.

How the Controversy Started

On May 10, 2025, Harshvardhan Rane announced on Instagram that he would not be a part of Sanam Teri Kasam 2 if Mawra Hocane remained involved. He objected to Mawra’s comments against India, especially calling Operation Sindoor “cowardly.” Harshvardhan wrote, “I respect all artists, but I will not tolerate derogatory comments against my country.” He added that he would prioritise his country’s pride, even if it meant losing fans. This statement came after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India’s retaliatory strikes, which killed 26 people.

Mawra’s Response

Mawra responded by calling Harshvardhan’s statement a “PR strategy.” She wrote on Instagram, “When our countries are at war, you are using my name to grab headlines. This is shameful and ridiculous.” Mawra said that children were killed in her country, and she was praying for the citizens and soldiers of both countries, not focusing on the film. She questioned Harshvardhan’s intentions, calling it an attempt to attract attention.

Harshvardhan’s Counterattack

Harshvardhan responded to Mawra’s allegations, saying, “There was hatred and personal comments in her statement. I never attacked her dignity.” He reiterated his stance, emphasising that he considers his country’s honour above all. This controversy has raised questions about the future of Sanam Teri Kasam 2, especially after the 2016 film grossed over Rs 50 crore after its re-release in 2025.

The Directors’ Stand

The film’s directors, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, have hinted at not casting Mawra in the sequel, as Pakistani artists are banned in India. Fans were excited to see the pair again, but the controversy has now become an example of the clash between art and politics.
