Indina Super Star Varun Dhawan’s new action drama movie, Baby John, had a great start at the box office. But on the second day of release, ticket sales went down.It made a fantastic Rs 11.25 crore on Christmas Day but only brought in Rs 4.5 crore on Thursday, according to early estimates from the Sacnilk website. Upcoming holidays like New Year and the weekend will be a major benefit for Baby John.
A Hindi Remake of Tamil Hit Theri
Directed by Kalees, Baby John hit theaters on Wednesday and attracted viewers with its exciting plot and Dhawan’s performance in two roles: police inspector Satya Verma and his other identity, John. This film is a Hindi remake of the popular 2016 Tamil movie Theri, which was directed by Atlee and starred Vijay. The cast also includes Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, and Jackie Shroff in important roles.
Box Office Drop and Occupancy Rate
The film started strong but saw a sharp decline in earnings on its second day, with Hindi screenings recording a low occupancy rate of just 11.09%. The overall budget for the movie, which includes production, prints, and marketing, is estimated to be around Rs 160 crore. Baby John needs to make at least Rs 190-200 crore to break even. Unfortunately, if it continues on this path, experts believe it might only reach about Rs 50 crore in total earnings unless it turns things around this weekend.
Competition from Pushpa 2 and Other Releases
Baby John faces stiff competition from Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, which continues to dominate the box office even in its third week. On Thursday (day 22), Pushpa 2 collected Rs 9.6 crore, reaffirming its status as a major hit. To make matters more challenging, the live-action Disney film Mufasa: The Lion King also draws audiences, further impacting Baby John’s performance. However, with the weekend approaching, there’s still a chance for Baby John to improve its performance. If it gets good reviews and more people start going to see it, the film could pick up some steam. But it’s uncertain whether Varun Dhawan’s movie can bounce back from its slow start and become a box-office hit.
