Indian Capitan Rohit Sharma has been dropped for the upcoming 5th and final test against Australia. The upcoming fifth test will be played against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Now the role of captaincy over to the Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit Sharma struggled with the bat in this series in the last five innings he scored only 31 runs at an average of 6.20 which is the worst.

Rohit Sharma’s Struggles with Performance

Since the beginning of 2024, Rohit Sharma’s performance has been getting worse. Last year, he played 14 matches but only managed to score 619 runs, averaging 24.76, which included two centuries and two half-centuries. His difficulties continued in the current series, with his best score being a tough 52 against New Zealand earlier this year. Since March 2024, he has only made 154 runs in 15 matches, averaging just 10.26.

Changes in Batting Order

Rohit missed the first Test of the series because of paternity leave but came back for the second Test. He tried out different batting positions, starting in the middle order before going back to his usual spot as an opener during the Boxing Day Test. This switch messed up the team’s balance, leading to Shubman Gill being left out, but it didn’t help Rohit get back to his best form.

Speculations About Retirement

Rohit Sharma

Rumors are circulating that Rohit Sharma could announce his retirement from Test cricket following the SCG Test. Reports suggest that his ongoing struggles with the bat led the team management to make the tough choice of leaving him out of the playing XI for the last match.  During the pre-match press conference, head coach Gautam Gambhir answered questions about the team’s lineup, while Rohit opted not to be present.

Bumrah’s Leadership and Team Adjustments

Jasprit Bumrah, who captained India to a solid win in the first Test, has been heavily involved in preparing the team. With his guidance, the squad is looking to change their luck in the final match and secure the trophy that has been so elusive. The Indian cricket team seems to be in a transition period, with the fifth Test possibly signaling the end of Rohit Sharma’s Test career. Despite the difficulties faced in this series, the team is committed to making a strong comeback and finishing the tour on a high note.
