The announcement was a shock, especially since the Indian selectors were about to pick the team for the upcoming five-Test series against England. Indian captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on social media. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly supported Rohit’s decision and said it was the right time for him to retire. During a conversation with India Today, Ganguly congratulated Rohit on his wonderful career.

What Sourav Ganguly Said

“Retirement is a personal decision. I think it was the right time for Rohit Sharma to hang up his boots. He has played a lot of cricket for India, and I wish him all the best for his future journey. He is a good leader, and that is why he became the captain of India. I am not surprised at all that he led India to the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy titles. His career was fantastic, and Rohit should be proud of it.”

Rohit Sharma Broke His Silence

Let us tell you that Rohit Sharma’s form had dropped recently, and because of this, he faced heavy criticism. In a recent interview, Rohit finally spoke about the criticism and called it unnecessary. Rohit said in an interview with Vimal Kumar, “Criticism is a part of a player’s life. It is necessary and important. But I am against unnecessary criticism. I don’t like it. Many things have been said about me, but I don’t pay attention to them and they don’t affect me.”

Focus is on Performance, Not Criticism

Rohit also said that instead of replying to critics, he focuses on improving his game. He said, “Many things have been said about me, like I cannot play left-arm fast bowlers and many other things. But I don’t pay attention to such comments. If you try to defend yourself, many things can go wrong. It wastes your time, and you should value your time. I do what my job is.”
