Weather Alert: As April moves forward, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert that’s raising concerns across the country. The familiar summer heat has taken a backseat in many regions as cyclonic circulation has triggered a sudden shift in weather patterns. Thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy rainfall, and even hailstorms are now becoming the new normal in several states, bringing both relief and worry for residents.

Cyclonic Circulation Turns the Weather Unpredictable

Urgent Weather Alert

According to IMD, a cyclonic circulation is currently impacting large parts of eastern and central India. This system has led to significant weather changes, especially in Jharkhand, where cities like Ranchi have been witnessing strong winds and continuous rainfall for the past two days. The intensity of these weather events is such that hailstorms have also been reported. The department warns that hail may strike Jharkhand again on April 15, accompanied by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall.

Northeast and Eastern India Brace for Stormy Weather

The IMD predicts that over the next seven days, states in the northeast and surrounding eastern regions will continue to experience lightning, thunder, and gusty winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 km/h. Light to moderate rain is expected in a scattered to fairly widespread manner. Heavy rainfall is likely in Odisha on April 14 and 15, while Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya are also expected to witness downpours on April 14.

South and Central India Not Spared

Rain and strong winds are not limited to the eastern parts. States like Maharashtra, particularly its plains, as well as central India, are in for rough weather. Gusty winds and thunderstorms are expected, with wind speeds reaching up to 50 km/h. In the south, areas like Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Telangana, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh will also be hit by similar conditions over the next three to five days. These regions may experience isolated to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning activity.

Heatwave Conditions Looming Over North India

Urgent Weather Alert

While some regions are dealing with rains, others are gearing up for a heatwave. Rajasthan, in particular, is expected to face extreme heat between April 14 and 17, with daytime temperatures in Jaisalmer expected to touch 44–45°C. The IMD has warned of heatwave conditions in isolated parts of Rajasthan on April 14 and 15, with more widespread and intense heat likely between April 16 and 17. Other northern regions like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and parts of Madhya Pradesh may also see rising temperatures and heatwave-like conditions during this period.

Rajasthan Weather: Dry Spell After the Storm

Rajasthan, which has seen its share of thundershowers in recent days, is now expected to enter a dry spell. IMD forecasts suggest that from Sunday onwards, most of the state will see dry weather, with daytime temperatures rising by three to four degrees. Despite the relief from thunderstorms, the rising heat may bring its own set of challenges.
