A 40-year-old ASHA worker death was found dead in suspicious conditions in Budaun district, Uttar Pradesh. Police believe that the woman could have been sexually assaulted prior to her death. The crime was committed on Monday night, and the body was found in a maize field in Kharkholi village, under Alapur police station.
Mysterious Vanishing Act Followed by a Horrifying Revelation
Rajkumari, the victim, was a Hayatnagar village resident. She had attended a vaccination drive in Kundan Nagla as part of her ASHA work. She was last seen in the evening, going back with an ANM on a scooty. But she never returned home. Police found her semi-naked body in a field late at night after receiving a tip-off from the UP 112 emergency service.
The body was then taken for a postmortem. Police authorities said that the cause of death would only be known once the autopsy was conducted. A forensic team also visited the scene to gather evidence.
Allegations of the Family and Current Legal Battle
Rajkumari was married to Raghvendra Jatav since 2003. He had a son from his previous marriage, and together, they had three children—two sons and a daughter. Her family informed the police that she was involved in a land dispute with two men from the same village, and the case was being heard in a civil court in Budaun. Following the family’s complaints seriously, two people have been detained by police for interrogation. Senior Superintendent of Police Brijesh Singh stated that legal proceedings are already in progress and all the possible angles are being pursued.
Police Action and Next Steps in the Investigation
SSP Singh has constituted four distinct teams to probe the case, comprising the Special Operations Group (SOG) and espionage units. The teams are operating to collect clues and interact with villagers who might have seen something suspicious. Authorities are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the type of crime and those behind it. The episode has sparked worries regarding the security of women health workers working in remote regions.
