After a short respite of thunder and rain on Friday in Delhi, Saturday has become unendurable with severe heat. The hot sun is compelling people to stay indoors. At the same time, the IMD has issued new alerts regarding monsoon activity in several states. Heavy rains, thunderstorms, lightning, and heatwaves are on the cards. Weather in Delhi to Northeast and South India will change drastically in the next 12 hours.
Delhi and Rajasthan expect heat and Thunder
Delhi, which experienced rain for a day, is once again under the clutches of scorching heat. But IMD predicts a probability of light rain and gusty winds in the evening. Rajasthan is experiencing a mix a warning has been sounded for rain in most districts for the next four days, but a number of other districts are under yellow alert for heatwave.
Uttar Pradesh Prepares for Divided Forecast
Eastern UP can see thunderstorms and rain in the districts of Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Bahraich, and Lakhimpur Kheri. Western UP, however, is under high alert for heatwave situations. Etawah, Banda, Chitrakoot, Fatehpur, Kanpur, Aligarh, and Mathura are the districts likely to struggle under extreme heat.
Monsoon Surge in the Northeast and South India
Heavy rain warnings have been put out for Northeast India’s Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh until May 21. Thunderstorms and heavy winds are also expected in the same states in the next week. Widespread rainfall will also occur in South India, primarily in Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, and coastal Karnataka. Thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds will occur in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, and parts of Karnataka.
Hail and Storm Warnings in Hilly Areas and the North
Between May 18 and 21, Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand can expect to receive strong winds. In areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, hailstorm alerts have also been sounded. Eastern Rajasthan and many regions in Uttar Pradesh can expect rain alerts. Punjab, Haryana, and Western UP between May 18 and 21 can experience isolated rain spells.
