Zimbabwe will play a Test match on English soil after a long gap of 22 years when they face Ben Stokes’ team in a one-off match at Trent Bridge starting May 22. England will aim to begin the new World Test Championship cycle on a high note, while Zimbabwe hopes to celebrate their return to England with a win after their strong performance in Bangladesh recently.

Zimbabwe last toured England for a Test series in 2003, where England won 2-0. Before that, the two teams played Test matches in 2000 (England won 1-0) and in 1996-97, when the series ended in a draw.

England to Test New Players Ahead of Busy Summer

England will use this opportunity to try new players and combinations before a busy summer. The team has a mix of young and experienced players, including seamer Sam Cook, who will make his Test debut after a great county season and success with England Lions.

Nottinghamshire fast bowler Josh Tongue is also returning to the Test squad after playing in the 2023 Ashes, adding to the local interest in the match. Ben Stokes will captain a side led by top-order regulars Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook. Promising players like James Reev, Jamie Smith, and Shoaib Bashir will look to make the most of their chances.

Zimbabwe’s Key Players and Team Changes

Zimbabwe’s star all-rounder Sikandar Raza has rejoined the squad. Clive Madande returns as backup wicketkeeper, and fast bowler Newman Nyamhuri replaces leg-spinner Vincent Masekesa from the team that played against Bangladesh. This change gives Zimbabwe a strong fast bowling attack to suit England’s fast pitches.

Led by veteran Craig Ervine, Zimbabwe will depend on experienced players like Sean Williams and Blessing Muzarabani. Along with emerging talents, they aim to make an impact in their first Test in England after more than 20 years.
