Bihar Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a weather alert for Bihar, forecasting thunderstorms and lightning across all 38 districts on Tuesday. Authorities have asked the public and farmers to remain alert and take proper safety measures. Out of the total, 27 districts have been placed under an orange alert due to expected wind speeds up to 60 km/h. The remaining 11 districts are under a yellow alert, with winds expected around 40 km/h and light rainfall.

Cyclonic Circulation Causes Sudden Shift in Weather

The sudden change in weather conditions is due to an active cyclonic circulation currently hovering over North and East Bihar. This disturbance is increasing instability in the atmosphere, triggering gusty winds, cloud cover, and scattered rainfall across the state. The impact is expected to last for the next two days, covering various regions one after the other.

District-Wise Forecast for Three Days

The weather department has issued a specific district-wise forecast for the upcoming days. On May 21, districts including Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Purnia, Katihar, Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, and Vaishali are expected to receive light rain and experience thunderstorms. All these districts are under a yellow alert. On May 22, the rain and wind activity will shift to Supaul, Araria, Madhepura, Saharsa, and Kishanganj. These regions will also stay under a yellow alert, indicating moderate caution. By May 23, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Munger, and Khagaria will likely witness rainfall with similar weather conditions and alerts continuing.

Rain and Hail Hit Multiple Regions

Over the last 24 hours, Madhepura was hit by heavy rain, while Bhagalpur experienced hail along with moderate rainfall. Morning showers were also recorded in Darbhanga, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, and Gopalganj. Meanwhile, Patna remained cloudy throughout the day but did not receive any rain.

Heat Relief as Temperatures Drop Statewide

One notable effect of this weather system has been the drop in maximum temperatures across Bihar. Almost all districts recorded temperatures below 40°C. Rohtas reported the highest temperature at 39.2°C, while Gaya stood at 37.5°C. Nalanda and Patna saw cooler conditions with temperatures at 33.2°C and 32.5°C respectively.

Public and Agricultural Advisory Issued by IMD

To ensure public safety, the IMD has released a detailed advisory. Farmers are advised to suspend all fieldwork during storm activity. They should avoid using mobile phones or working near metal equipment like tractors and pump sets during lightning strikes. Residents have been asked to remain indoors unless necessary and to follow instructions issued by local administration and weather officials. The alert aims to reduce damage and protect lives during the ongoing spell of unstable weather.
