Monsoon Alert: Monsoon activity has picked up pace across India. Sudden weather changes and intense rain are affecting daily life in several regions. On May 21, 2025, Delhi-NCR experienced a sharp shift in weather. After a hot day with temperatures reaching 40.7°C, the evening brought a fierce dust storm followed by heavy rain, hail, and thunderstorms. This sudden storm caused chaos—trees were uprooted and roads were flooded due to waterlogging.

The rain isn’t limited to Delhi. Torrential showers are lashing the Northeast, West Coast, and Southern Peninsular India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that this weather pattern will persist for the next 5 to 6 days. Signs point to an early monsoon, with conditions likely turning favourable for its arrival in Kerala within 3 to 4 days.

Severe Weather in Karnataka and Maharashtra

IMD has issued a red alert for coastal Karnataka, forecasting heavy rain on May 22, 25, and 26. Meanwhile, southern interior Karnataka will also face intense rainfall on May 25 and 26. These areas should expect continued disruptions, especially in low-lying zones prone to flooding.

In western India, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada are likely to see very strong winds and thunderstorms between May 22 and 24. Travel and outdoor activity in these areas may be affected due to stormy conditions.

Stormy Days Ahead for Saurashtra and Kutch

Saurashtra and Kutch are on alert as well. The IMD reports strong winds likely to sweep across these regions on May 22 and May 24. Residents in these areas should prepare for wind-related disruptions and possible localised damage.

Northeast India and Island Territories on Watch

The entire northeastern region will continue to receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds for nearly a week. Arunachal Pradesh, in particular, is expected to see heavy rainfall from May 22 to 26. Similar alerts are in place for Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the same period. Meanwhile, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are also under watch. IMD has warned of heavy rain here between May 24 and 26, potentially affecting transport and local services. With weather conditions turning severe across multiple states, residents are advised to stay updated with IMD alerts and take necessary precautions.
