Indian authorities have made a huge network of suspected Pakistani espionage in the past two weeks. Individuals arrested include social media personalities, students, factory workers, and Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh locals. The key figure in this matter is Jyoti Malhotra, a YouTuber based in Haryana who is said to have had direct connections with Pakistani authorities and made trips to Pakistan.

Jyoti Malhotra and Links to High Commission Official

Jyoti Malhotra reportedly had contact with Pakistani officer Ehsan-ur-Rahim, or Danish, during a visa trip to the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi. Danish was subsequently declared persona non grata. Malhotra is reported to have visited Pakistan on a number of occasions and once to China. Her bank statements, online correspondence, and travel records are being scrutinized. She is said to have been created as a possible future intelligence asset, particularly in the recent India-Pakistan war.

Other Main Suspects: Women ‘Spies’ and Cross-Border Agents

Another 31-year-old woman from Punjab by the name of Guzala allegedly accepted two UPI payments in cash from Danish. She owned up to sharing information about Indian Army operations. Shahzad from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the Moradabad Special Task Force. He allegedly used to traffic goods via the border and share sensitive information with Pakistan on multiple visits.

Punjab Trail: Youth, Payments, and Military Data

Falaksher Masih and Suraj Masih, natives of Punjab district Ajnala, are accused of transmitting pictures and information of army camps and Indian troop movement in the border district to Pakistan’s ISI. Malerkotla native Yameen Mohammad was rewarded online for spilling the beans. Natives of Gurdaspur Sukhpreet Singh and Karanbir Singh were caught with mobile phones and live rounds. Under Operation Sindoor, they allegedly followed and reported Indian troop movement in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and J&K to Pakistan.

Haryana Involvement: Factory Guards, Students, and Social Media Trails

Nauman Ilahi, originally from UP but residing in Panipat, was working as a factory security guard. He reportedly passed classified information to Pakistani contacts. Devender Singh, a postgraduate student from Kaithal, came into contact with PIOs during a religious pilgrimage and later sent photographs of Patiala cantonment. Armaan and Mohammad Tarif, residents of Nuh, are charged with divulging military information to High Commission staff members in Delhi. Tarif accepted that he had gone to Pakistan and handed over a SIM card to two staff members at the embassy.

These arrests are in the wake of increased tension after the Pahalgam terror attack and during India’s internal Operation Sindoor. The police believe that this spy ring reflects Pakistan’s changing strategy of enlisting civilians and influencers to disseminate its narrative and gather intelligence online.
